Volkswagen 1L

A concept car designed by Volkswagen, the Volkswagen 1L, is an innovative vehicle which is designed to be highly efficient in fuel consumption. The 1L, or 1 litre, is named after its task of running for a total of one hundred kilometres whilst using just one litre of fuel. In another unit of comparison this is; 235 miles per 1 US gallon of fuel. The car is a two seater, with the two seats being linear, i.e. in tandem, opposed to being side by side, like in the majority of cars to date. The Volkswagen 1L is designed to be road worthy and practical as an everyday car, yet extremely efficient to reduce fuel consumption.

The immense efficiency of the car is achieved by a mixture of lightweight components and panelling, highly efficient parts, optimal use of car space, and great aerodynamics. Having seats which are linear, instead of side by side, result in a thinner car with less drag. Drag reduction and aerodynamics are further enhanced by the absence of side mirrors, and a sleek back end design which is minus a viewable back window. The issue of visibility and safety is answered with the use of high end camera and displays which show all round views to the driver. The thinner shape, due to the seating configuration, allows for the rear wheels to be positioned closer together, creating a highly efficient streamlined body.

The aerodynamic body of the Volkswagen 1L is unpainted carbon fibre. The frame of the car is magnesium alloy, with all components being made with weight in mind. The overall weight of the car is just less than three hundred kilograms, around six hundred and forty pounds.

The concept car is fitted with a zero point three litre engine, which uses diesel to output eight break horsepower. The efficiency of the car is enhanced by an automatic six speed transmission, whilst the driver only has control over three options; neutral, drive forward, and reverse. The car is designed with safety in mind, equipped with crumple zones and rolling protection.

What Makes A Good Movie

Art is reflection of our society and life and movies are often regarded as modern expressions of art. They make us laugh and cry and we often love to quote them, they edify us enlighten us.

Every year numerous movies are made in the entertainment industries but all are not liked: some top the charts while others are kicked out of the box office. Some become the hot topic of discussion for the critics while others just escapes their notice, in short some get a thumps up while others a thumps down.

Mirror Care

But how many of these, which get a positive feedback, are actually good movies? Well it is not that simple to answer, as it seems. The topic is very much subjective. What seems good to some may not be the same for the others. What appears enjoyable to a few others might be enjoyable for others. Then what exactly is a good movie? To generalize it, we can say that those movies, which are liked by the mass and not by some class category of people, could be considered as a good movie. But what are the traits that are needed for a movie to qualify as a good one. First of all a movie should provide good entertainment. They are of course others:

Touch our feelings: A movie should touch our heart and make us talk or think about it instead of just becoming a time pass. It should have the capacity to teach and inspire us and provoke us emotionally.

Educative: It should be able to let us know about something new. Nowadays movies are considered to be one of the most effective educational tools used to teach or educate people regarding certain issues. In short a good movie should have some educative value for the masses.

Mirror of the society: A good movie must also provide some elements of encouragement and inspire people towards successfully overcoming barriers. Movies are regarded as the mirror of life. Every story of a movie is more or less inspired by our life, by what happens around us.

But this is not all; there are some other factors also which contribute in making a movie, to be considered as good. Following are the points:

The Plot: This is the most important part of the movie. Without a good plot a movie fails to attract and retain the viewers in the theaters. Even if they were drawn to it initially for some reasons, people would loose interest sooner than later.

The Characters: The second most significant factor of any good movie is the characters of the story. Without them there would be no story and no plot. Characters should be such, that the audience likes them. Be it a positive character or negative one. They should have some qualities to which the people can relate.

Actors: We need good actors to make a good movie. Actors, who can justify the characters and make them, come alive in front of the audience. They must be able to portray the characters well so that people say that the characters are made keeping them in mind. They should blend themselves into the characters.

Script: Without dialogues movies look dead. Script is the life of movies so they should be very strong and appealing. They can even make people come and see the movie repeatedly.

Last but not the least, visual display of a movie with beautiful scenes and sceneries can also influence and draw people to the theaters.

How To Prevent Car Accidents

Many people die in road accidents in America every year. Most of the road accidents comprise of passenger car accidents. Drivers are mostly at fault in majority of these car accidents, while few environmental, and road conditions are the other reasons.

It is essential for car owners and drivers to be extremely careful while driving, in order to prevent the many car accidents occurring every year. There are a lot of standard driving rules that need to be followed to reduce the probability of an accident. If each and every driver followed these road rules, the number of accidents would be considerably reduced.

Mirror Care

The cars need to be serviced and checked for any problems every month. Maintaining a proper schedule for car servicing is the most basic of all preventive measures. Furthermore drivers need to check the front and rear mirrors of the car, as proper mirrors give a clear view of the front and back of the vehicle, thereby avoiding many fatal accidents.

It’s a well-known fact that drinking and driving is deadly. Whenever drivers are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, their judgment decreases and they can no longer drive properly. Drinking and driving is a punishable offence in the US. For that matter operation of any machinery under the influence of liquor is strictly prohibited.

Drivers need to maintain proper a distance between two cars to avoid rear end collisions. Drivers should also not attempt to reach for items in the car while driving. There is a chance the driver could lose control of the vehicle and cause a serious accident. Road rage is not good, and drivers need to maintain their cool while driving. Thus, a lot of car accidents can be prevented if the drivers follow the rules of the road.

How to Remove Paint Overspray

From time to time I’ve been known to forget a piece of tape here or there, resulting in overspray of all different magnitudes. There is several different types of overspray and I’ll let all the DIY’ers know the best way to remove them. The body shop should always take care of it for you but it’s not always a perfect world, so here you go.

Clearcoat overspray – this is likely the most common that you will find. It is characterized by the grainy feel you will observe when you run your hand over the vehicle, just like sandpaper! It is also difficult to obtain a spot-free wash as clear overspray will make your finish prone to water spoting. There is a few options you can use. Paint thinner on a rag can remove it pretty quickly, however it runs some risks when using over fresh paint so you may want to consider another method.

Mirror Care

Ideally you can use a clay bar and basically wet your car down and rub the clay bar around the entire vehicle. It will start of feeling gritty & once the clay bar has removed the overspray you will have a nice smooth feeling finish once again. Sometimes it leaves behind some pieces of clay on the surface which can be easiliy removed with a mild solvent, wax & silicone remove will work well. If you keep the clay moving it wont stick and break apart, it’s when you stop it tends to stick.

Another great way to hand overspray is using a polisher. You can polish to remove the overspray and at the same time you will be shining up your finish. You will want to start with a coarser compound, then finish with a lighter swirl remover. Have a look at our repair video’s and training if you would like some information on this method.

Acid’s can remove very mild overspray and road fallout. You can use a mild acid some that are even designed for wire wheels will work. Some companies put in under the name as a fallout remover. Generally you will wash your car using this in place of soap, let it sit 5 minutes and wash it of, repeating if necesarry.

For window’s the easiest way by far is some very fine steel wool. Just scrub the window with it and off the overspray comes. You can also use a razor blade, just angle it and scrape.

Primer & Paint Overspray – now the only way to remove this is by using paint thinner or a solvent of some kind. It will take some rubbing and soaking, wear gloves if attempting. This will also damage any fresh paint so be carefull around those area’s. Also be cautions on trim items and baked in colors parts such as textured mirrors, handles, rockers.

One last trick is for rubber moldings. Ideally you won’t have any overspray on your moldings and hopefully the shop removed them. If your looking to fix this up yourself grab a black sharpe marker and you can bet this is a much safer fix then trying to remove it. If you haven’t guessed just touch up your moldings and consider a new shop next time.

Renovating Small Bathrooms: 12 Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look Bigger

Wish your small bathroom was large and luxurious? Renovating a small bathroom may be easier than you think. These tips will make your old bathroom look new and, best of all, bigger.

1. KEEP THE FOOTPRINT You save big bucks when you keep the existing walls and tub. That does not mean you settle for less. Remove the old tub and replace it with an oval insert or acrylic shower unit.

Mirror Care

2. PAINT. Painting a bathroom is the cheapest update. Choose a pale color to reflect light. According to REPAIR-HOME.COM “the best color is definitely off-white.” However, pale blues, greens, and tans are also good color choices.

3. WHITE OUT WOODWORK. The Better Homes and Gardens Web site says painting woodwork the same color as the walls will make your woodwork “disappear.” This monochromatic design approach will also unify your bathroom.

4. CLEAR THE WAY. De-clutter the space and get rid of frosted shower doors. Then, “the eye will see all the way to the back of the shower wall and the room will feel a lot bigger than it is,” notes http://www.homefocused.com.

5. GET TECHNICAL. In the last few years solid surface technology has improved greatly. New

acrylic surfaces allow you to buff away scratches and sand away stains. Some acrylics are mold-proof, a big plus for small bathrooms.

6. BUILD UP. Bathroom designers tell clients to look upwards for extra space. Install extra shelves on top of a cabinet if possible, or a long shelf along one wall. Adding crown molding will draw the eyes upwards and create the illusion of space.

7. DOWNSIZE. Manufacturers are producing smaller tubs, showers, vanities, and lights in response to market demands. These items are small in size and big in style.

8. CHANGE MIRRORS. The Home Focused Web site says “two mirrors placed opposite each other can give the illusion of never-ending space!” Framed mirrors are the trend today. If you can’t remove an existing mirror glue a frame around it. You may also hang a long mirror in the bathroom.

9. RE-TILE THE FLOOR. Surprisingly, large floor tiles make a small bathroom look bigger. Choose a textured tile to prevent slipping. Cover the skirt of the bathtub with a smaller version of the floor tile. Lay down an area rug if replacing tile is too costly.

10. USE EVERY INCH. Stick robe hooks and a laundry bag on the back of the bathroom door. Removing cabinet doors also creates the illusion of more space, according to http://www.decoratingyoursmallspace.com.

11. ADD ELEGANCE. One elegant touch — glass tiles on the vanity, decorative tiles around the tub, a live fern on a stand — will make the whole bathroom feel elegant. You deserve this elegance.

12. THINK RE-SALE. You never know when you have to move, so think resale as you make your design decisions. Simple lines and neutral colors will appeal to future buyers.

Tonsils Swollen – How to Treat Tonsil Infection?

Are your tonsils white and swollen? Does it feel like someone has injected your throat with a vile of bee stings causing your throat to swell up like a balloon? If so, then you most likely have a tonsil infection.

Tonsil infections are usually classified into a bacterial or a viral infection. The most common symptom is inflamed or swollen tonsils, also called tonsillitis. However, you may also suffer from a fever, headache, ear ache, sore throat, chills and aches. You also mostly likely are having trouble tasting, swallowing and talking.

Mirror Care

There are several different ways to treat tonsillitis depending on what type of infection it is. For viral infections, you can ease the symptoms by taking pain medication and throat lozenges. However, there are no prescribed medications for viral infections. Like a cold or flu the virus will go away after a few days.

You can help relieve the symptoms by bathing in Epson salts, which can stop the fever and aches. You can also drink plenty of veggie juice which will boost your immune system and help your body fight the infection. You can also mix pure boiled water with turmeric and pepper powder which can coat the throat and stop the pain. Or you can mix lime with salt and water which can also soothe your burning throat.

To treat a tonsil infection caused by bacteria, you will need to take antibiotics. First you need to visit your doctor who will take a throat swab to confirm the presence of the strep bacteria. He will normally prescribe you with penicillin which must be taken for the allotted time. If you only take the pills until you feel better, the tonsil infection may come back. You need to finish your pills, even if your feel 100 percent better after a couple of days.

Unfortunately, penicillin or not, some people are prone to recurrent or chronic tonsillitis. In some serious and recurrent tonsil inflammation cases, or when the tonsils are constantly getting infected, you may consider having your tonsils removed. This is also called a tonsillectomy. Although the procedure is considered safe, there are certain costs and precautions that you need to consider and discuss with your doctor.

So if you look in the mirror and notice that your tonsils are swollen, there is no need to panic. Get some rest and take care of your body so the infection can clear up and you can get back to your normal, swollen-tonsil-free self.

Driving And Back Pain – Is Your Car Seat Causing Lower Back Pain?

A lot of us experience lower back pain whilst driving. A number of researches have investigated the relationship between driving and Back Pain, which uncovered uncovered some interesting results. One finding is a comparison of drivers in the USA and in Sweden found that 50% of people questioned in both countries reported low back pain.

So what is the connection of driving and back pain?

Mirror Care

So far research has found three factors for low back pain whilst driving. The first one is the vibration from the engine (something that you can not change), the sitting position is the second factor and the third one is the length of time that we drive.

Scientists at laboratories have researched the effects of vibration of our body whilst driving. The Lumbar Spine(lower back) naturally resonates at a frequency of 4-5 Hertz and from research they found that this natural frequency can be distorted. This distortion can result into higher spinal loadings (compression) in the lower back, therefore causing an increased chance of low back pain. As mentioned before you can not change the vibration of the engine, but what you can do to reduce the effects of this on your lower back is to drive shorter periods at a time.

It is a lot easier to get comfortable in your seat when the car is stationary, a bit like sitting in a normal chair. But once you start driving the body will be subject to various forces like accelerations and decelerations, lateral movements from side to side and whole body vibrations. When we sit on a chair our feet, when on the floor, are used to support and stabilise the lower body. Whilst driving our abdominal muscles can not provide enough stability to our upper body and arms when turning the wheel. This will result in a significant increase of torsional stresses in the lower back, which in return will significantly increase the risk of low back pain.

To start with we should address one more important issue first – we all are guilty when it comes to adjusting our car seats correctly! In 2004 one of the largest car insurance companies (I won’t mention a name, after all you may think I am paid to write about this), released the findings of a research into how we sit in our car. (about 2.000 people were involved in this).

The research resulted in the following -

The headrest was found to be in an incorrect angle when driving of 61% of people involved in the study. This will increase the chance of ruptures of the spinal ligaments or worse when involved in an accident.

50% showed a slouched or hunched position over the steering wheel.

About a third of the drivers had back pain whilst driving.

25% tilted their heads or shifted in their seats each time they had to look into the ‘rear view mirror’.

Wearing unsuitable footwear or clothing happened to 34% of the drivers.

Please find below a list of 10 ways that can help to improve your seating position, make your driving experience more comfortable.

The Seat

Make sure that your bottom sits all the way in the back of the seat – where the base and the back of the seat meet. This will help to make you sit more upright and maintain the natural curvature of the spine, minimizing the stress on the spinal ligaments. If your seat has a lumbar roll built in have this all the way out – most cars with lumbar support that i tried do not allow enough support fom this lumbar roll, therefore it would be best to have it all the way out.

The Base length and Height of the Seat

The base of the seat should never touch the back of your knees and the front of the base should be slightly higher then the back, helping to provide more support and allowing you press the pedals without changing your spinal posture.

The Backrest

First relax back into your seat, place the seat at about a 10-15 degrees incline from the vertical position. If this feels unnatural to you then it probably means that the backrest is not upright enough for you. This can result into neck strain and / or coccyx (sitting bone) pain. Move the backrest more upright or if that doesn’t help you can place a small towel (folded in three) against the midspine, between the shoulder blades.

The Headrest

Have you ever noticed when watching an American movie that the headrests are often missing from the seats – it makes me crinch each time i see this (ooch). So much for giving a good example to our children. The position of your headrest will not only help to minimise the injuries of an accident but also to help to allow a better posture. The bony bit at the back of your head (known as the ‘inion’) is a good guiding point, the headrest should be level with this. There should be about 2.3 cm’s (1 inch for the non -metrics) between the back of your head and the headrest, when you are in the sitting position as described earlier. This to absorb shock as much as possible. This allows for the ligaments and the muscles of your neck to control the posture of your head better and giving better support in case of an accident.

Seat – Pedal distance

Make sure you have the distance between seat and the pedals so that when operating the pedals this does not cause you to over strech your legs or twist your body in any way. Thus your legs should not be straight when pushing the throttle or clutch all the way down. Obviously your knees should not be bend to the point you cannot easily move from one pedal to another. It is normally adviced to have your knees bend about 45 degrees.

The Arm position

Your arms should be as relaxed as possible, elbows bend around 20-30 degrees. If your steering wheel is adjustable have it in the mid to lower position (make sure the wheel does not partially obstruct the instrument panel), this will help to reduce the stress on your shoulders. Your hands should be positioned at ’10 past10′ and not as is suggested left hand at 9 o’clock and right hand at 3 o’clock.

The Armrests

If your seat has armrests then it is adviced to use these. As a guidance you should position the armrests so that they gently support the elbows, any more will cause the shoulders to rise and increase the change of straining your neck.

The Mirrors

These should only be adjusted once you have positioned your seat as described above. If not sure then please revisit the information again how to adjust your seat. The mirrors should be adjusted to allow you to freely look into them without the need of having to move your head much. you either have adjusted the mirrors incorrectly or you are to close to the steering wheel.

Adjusting Seat at intervals

This sound great in theory but for most of us this may be akward whilst driving. For those who have electric seats it is easier (although it always advicable to stop first), just reach for the buttons to adjust the seat without the need to take our attention of the road. It is said that you should be doing this every 30 mins. to reduce the incidents of back pain. This allows to change the pressure that is placed on the spine is varied regularly. Once arrived at your destination it would be good to strech! (don’t worry if it looks funny, soon everybody in the carpark will join in – you can be proud having started a new ‘healthy’ trend)

Have breaks

We all have seen the ‘take a break’ sign along the roads, helping you to avoid falling asleep behind the wheel. Taking a break helps your back as well, so when you need to take a rest you can have a strech at the same time to help your back. An hour maximum is the current thinking, although these tips should be taken as a general rule. This is a good time to adjust your seating position!

Do You Fall In Love Too Quickly – How Do You Stop Yourself?

When it comes to love, most of us fall into two categories 1) those who don’t think they deserve a lot and 2) those who are looking for the “perfect” person who does not exist. In this article, I’d like to talk about those of us who don’t think we deserve a lot – and don’t feel bad or get discouraged many people really don’t feel they deserve a lot when it comes to love.

Women who feel that they don’t deserve a lot have a tendency to quickly “fall in love” and as a result are more likely to get their hearts broken over and over. I don’t need to tell you that it is because you are being so needy, clingy or pushy, etc. you probably already know that from reading self-help books and internet articles, but how do you stop yourself (I am just a hopeless romantic!) and more importantly how do you avoid men who are incapable of (BUT he is so nice to me!) the kind of relationship you really want.

Tall Mirrors

The downside of being a hopeless romantic (been there..:-)) is that you always fall for guys you barely even know. Your romantic mind builds up a character that is often times so different from the real person. Your romantic mind also thinks that you know exactly how to “spoil” the person (of your own imagination) so much that he loves you eternally, but most times the more you give, the more he pulls away. And when he tells you “he is not feeling it” you get really confused “Isn’t this what men want from a woman?”

This exercise will help you stop romanticizing men and identify enduring qualities a man you can have a healthy balanced relationship with must absolutely have. I have personally experienced (and seen it with so many of my clients) what the power of having a CLEAR THOUGHT/FELT VISION of the kind of person who makes you truly happy can do. Once you conceive it in your heart and confess it with your mouth, it takes a life of its own. You will find your general attitude towards the men you meet changing (see them for who they really are) and you attracting men closer and closer to your soul’s desire.

While you can easily come up with the “external” parameters (tall and handsome, financially secure, sense of humour, college degree, etc), the truth is that the quality of the relationship is not so much about the romantic “qualities” of the person as it is about the quality of the way that person IS towards you. What he makes you THINK and FEEL about yourself, men, other people and life in general. If you’re hooked on looks, money, fame possessions, how they make love, and status, the ability to see relationships clearly, love or otherwise is extremely difficult. Healthy balanced and fulfilling relationships are less about the “experience” of falling in love and more about what happens in the days, weeks, months and years afterwards. His real-time actions rather than your romantic imaginations will show you whether or not he is the person you want in your intimate life.

Take time to really think about what you are doing when doing this exercise.

1. On a blank piece of paper, make a list of Ten PERSONALITY TRAITS the RIGHT person must absolutely have for you to consider him or her. If a person doesn’t have these qualities he will not be right for you. These “qualities” must come from a heartfelt place of inner knowing or intuition. Look at the enduring personality traits you find very attractive in the people closest to you, those who inspire you to want to be a better person: parents, friends, co-workers etc. Think about what makes them so endearing and good to be around. If you even slightly think; “oh, it doesn’t really matter”. Then it doesn’t.

2. When a particular quality pops into your mind, do not be in a hurry to dismiss it with “I can’t get that” or “that kind of person is too good for me” or “men like that don’t exist”. Your first thoughts are usually your instinct/soul at work, don’t let your mind silence it. Write it down, you can later take it out after clarifying what those qualities mean to you and whether or not they truly represent what makes you happy. It is best to do this exercise alone in the beginning – what fulfills you may not be what fulfills the next person. You don’t want their won wants to interfere with your own soul search. Stick to 10 -15 qualities to avoid jumping to fantasyland, being overly picky or not perceptive enough.

3. Look at your list and ask yourself “Would I want to spend the rest of my life with this person?” Can I completely be myself around him? Can I feel completely safe and secure in his arms? Can I argue with him and voice my opinions openly and honestly and still be respected and appreciated?”

Take the time to think about all of the failed relationships and combined all that heartache into one clear idea of what really makes you feel loved, secure, fulfilled and excited. The litmus test is determining if you want to emulate this person and if you would be happy if your child turns out like him.

To clarify what these qualities really mean to you, share this information with a positive influence in your life- parent, friend, professional help etc. What does each of these qualities mean to you personally (one quality can mean something different for different people)? How would that make you truly happy? How different would that relationship be from your other relationship? How would you feel? What would the two of you be doing? Where would you go? What would your life be like? Etc.

The only catch is that you have to start emulating those PERSONALITY TRAITS yourself. The more you become that person, the closer you are to someone who is a mirror of yourself. And when you meet someone who is like you he will seem so familiar because you already are that person. YOU KNOW YOU’VE MET YOUR SOUL MATE!
